Today, I dedicate this achievement to my incredible horse Davey (Mamet SSF).
Counter to most people’s advice, when I decided to pursue dressage more meaningfully, I wanted to buy a young horse versus an older one with proven abilities. Emily suggested I call @ssfwarmbloods to see if they had anything that would fit the bill. Scot told me he had a yearling that was on a stallion path, but for a variety of reasons, he would sell him as a riding horse and his temperament was perfect for an adult amateur. I flew to New Hampshire, met Davey, and took a leap of faith.
Little did I know that leap of faith would bring me such joy. Davey was the Grand Champion at Dressage at Devon in hand, Materiale Horse of the Year as a three year-old, made it to Dressage Finals as a four year-old and then…. I took over the ride making it all the way to Dressage Finals myself.
Davey has helped me ride at such a different level both in and outside the ring. He challenges me physically, mentally, and emotionally but at the core is a partnership and a bond that is absolutely extraordinary.
Not sure I have a score sheet that doesn’t say lovely horse, talented horse, extraordinary horse. That is typically followed with lovely pair. I love that.
So thank you Davey for making a boy’s horsey dreams come true. I love you with all my heart!”
