Matthiola is our fourth mare from our friend Gerard Vervoorn’s breeding program, and she’s the third mare from my favorite mare of his Bertolonia. Gerard has decided to cut back on the number of mares he breeds, so he has been selling many of his horses. Since I would be hard pressed to let anyone else own a Bertolonia daughter, Gerard has a captive buyer in me. Matthiola is a beautiful mare with incredibly good use of her hind leg. She has the type, mechanics, pedigree, and talent to produce top babies for us. She is due with her first foal, by Fynch Hatton, this year. We are excited to add her to our program.
