Big news and big changes at SSF. Farmer Morelli gave his notice. I’ve always said that when Anthony leaves, we’ll cut way back on the breeding in the US and refocus the farm. Anthony came to us as one of my former English students who wanted a part-time job. He loved horses, but had no experience with them. Over the years, he’s developed into an accomplished horseman. He leaves us capable of managing a breeding farm, competent in ultrasounding and breeding with both fresh and frozen, trained in the Tracy McReynolds’ method, and experienced with handling horses from foals to stallions. He is ready to move on and see what the world has to offer, and we are both thankful for the years he’s spent with us and excited for the opportunities that await him. Fortunately, he gave us a five-month notice, so he’s with us through our KWPN-NA Regional Meeting the first weekend of April. This does mean a major transition for SSF, however. Carol and I both love change, re-evaluating priorities, and creating new possibilities, so we’re taking Anthony’s leaving as an opportunity to refocus.
Although we haven’t sat down to really talk about the future of SSF in North America, I’d like us to focus more on using our new facility for more educational purposes and riding horses. I think we’ll look for someone to ride and train more, as well to manage the farm and do some of the breeding work. We’ve decided to cut down to five breeding mares in the US. We’ll maintain our program in the Netherlands. This means we have a number of horses available. A couple of the older mares, even though they have some breeding years left, will be retired and live in run-ins, unless I can find the perfect home for them. They’ve given us a lot, and I want them taken care of in their last years. That still leaves us with a number of mares to place/sell.
If I can’t find perfect homes, then these three mares will just be retired:
Werites SSF (Freestyle x Jazz) *AVAILABLE*

D’Orites SSF (Donatelli x Jazz) *SOLD*

We’re so excited for Farmer Morelli and all of the good things that await him. Please, plan on attending our Regional Meeting in April. I’m already lining up a great program. We’ll have a proper send off for Anthony…after he drags the ring.
Update to this post:
I’ve been overwhelmed by the response we’ve received from my last post. All of the available broodmares are spoken for other than Werites and BoWendy, both of whom I have turned down offers from people because of the mares’ ages and their needing a perfect situation. We’ve had a lot of interest in Ruthie, RBG Wendy SSF, (Gaudi x Sir Sinclair x Jazz), but she’s still available as of right now. These are some pictures and video of her first time under saddle. Tracy McReynolds is a magician. I can not thank him enough for his patience, expertise, and horsemanship. This mare was one of the top mares in North America this year and sister to Godot SSF, aka, Sammy, who went to Grand Prix with Eiren Crawford. She is a PROK mare and keur eligible.
