SHOOTING STAR FARM
Vierde Groep
Well…the day started out with a bang; six horses selected out of the first group. Since only 12 out of 50 were selected total for the day, you can guess what happened in the next five groups. Glock’s Toto Jr was the big winner today. As far as the others, there were a lot of comments about incorrect fundament, not enough uphill tendency in the movement, not using the back. There were a few super horses not accepted that surprised me, and a couple that were accepted I didn’t expect. It’s...
Derde Groep
Another interesting day. No sons selected from a number of stallions. Eighteen selected out of 55 presented. I would have selected even fewer. #300 All At Once x Negro x Krack C -Jameson RS2 line -super horse -dam full brother to my favorite, #575 -+ type, supple -not as expressive as #575 but more relaxed in the body #302 All At Once x Farrington x Corleone -definite All At Once type -little heavier -strong, lots of power -good mover, but could be more supple #306 Blu...
Tweede Groep
Another tough day for many breeders. Only 14 horses selected out of 55. The jury only took four horses in the first three groups. I would only have taken two. The fourth group had six selected, but then the last two groups only had two each. They selected a couple horses I wouldn’t have, but there were three others I would have taken. Today’s collection included more foreign sires, Deparon US, and Vivaldi and his sons. #304 Apache x Ampere x Jazz -stiff, short neck, really narrow...
Eerste Groep
I wasn’t planning on writing journal entries about the First Ring selection, but why not. I’m still awake… There were 52 horses presented on Day One. The jury selected 17 horses. I would have selected 15, so not far off. Day One is almost always the day for foreign sires. This year, Painted Black, Totilas, Total US, and Trafalgar sons were also included. #520 Millenium x Bordeaux -Trento B line -beautiful type, not a special mover -good enough #524 Nespresso x Uphill -I...
North American Stallion Sport Test
Since I am one of the lucky ones to have a ticket to the North American Stallion Test at Hilltop next week, I thought I should probably get off my ass and write something about my last two trips, first, the Netherlands and, then, much of the East Coast, before I start writing about the Stallion Test. Yup. That’s how I started a journal entry two weeks ago. Didn’t happen. So, while the NASST is fresh in my mind, let’s start with that. Full disclosure: We sent a stallion through...
